The original Wordle gives you a five-letter word and colours your letters green, yellow or grey. The Formula 1 version swaps letters for grid facts: you guess a driver from the current field and every guess comes back with coloured feedback on team, nationality, age, car number and grid position. Nothing is random — each wrong guess narrows the field, exactly like a word puzzle.
The four daily stages in Gridle
- Driver — guess today's driver from the current grid. Feedback on team, country, age, number.
- Track — identify a circuit on the calendar from its outline and clues.
- Livery — name the team from its car colours.
- Team radio — one famous radio message; say who said it.
Clear all four and you get a shareable result grid — the emoji block you have seen friends post, only with chequered flags instead of squares.
How long does it take?
Most players finish in under a minute. The puzzle is deliberately short: it is a coffee-break habit during a race weekend and something to keep the F1 brain warm during a break in the calendar.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play every stage as a guest and your streak is stored in your browser. An account only adds two things: a streak that follows you between phone and laptop, and a place on the daily and weekly leaderboards.
Where the answers come from
Answers use the current season's drivers and teams, so the grid you guess from is the grid that actually races this year — driver moves and new team names included. If you want to brush up on history first, the champions list covers every title winner since 1950.
