Guess the F1 driver
Stage one of the daily Gridle puzzle is a driver hunt: name the mystery driver from the current grid using coloured feedback on every guess. Here is how to read that feedback and cut your guess count.
Gridle is a free daily Formula 1 puzzle: four stages, unlimited guesses, no sign-up.
Play today's puzzleHow the feedback works
- Green — exact match on that attribute (same team, same nationality, same number).
- Yellow — close but not exact: neighbouring country, similar age bracket, or a nearby car number.
- Grey — no relation; rule that whole group out.
Because every attribute is scored independently, a completely wrong driver is still useful. A grey team column eliminates two drivers at once.
Strategy: pick an opener that splits the grid
A strong opening guess is a driver in the middle of the field, from a nationality that is common on the grid, with a mid-range age and car number. That maximises the chance of yellows, and yellows are worth more information than a lucky green on one column.
- Guess one: a mid-grid European driver in their late twenties.
- Guess two: use the nationality and age arrows to jump continents or generations rather than nudging one place.
- Guess three: by now team plus age usually leaves only one or two candidates.
Common mistakes
- Guessing two team-mates in a row — the second guess adds almost no new information.
- Ignoring the age hint, which is usually the fastest way to separate rookies from veterans.
- Using last season's line-up. Driver moves matter; the answer set is the current grid.
After the driver
Solving the driver unlocks three more stages: circuit, livery and team radio. All four together make up one day's puzzle and one shareable result.
